What’s in a word—or two?
Volvo timing belt, Volvo timing parts and a whole lotta others: just hearing this sort of line-up makes me queasy right down to my stomach. Why? For the reason that I have entirely no idea where it is located except that it is contained within the engine innards of my Volvo. I’m a typical person, in my views, my tastes and yes, even whims. Typical. Average. Normal . And more than half of the typical, average, normal people who inhabit the vast expanse of this planet don’t have the slightest idea on what these terms mean, much less what they’re for. Whatever the degree of awareness that the average person holds of such things, it’s clear that it is not enough—barely adequate in fact.
But why bother, you may ask? Why fill yourself with anxiety over the existence of something as inconsequential (or so you may have been led to believe) as a Volvo timing belt? Believe it or not, a great timing belt is crucial to the engine processes of your Volvo. The timing belt turns a component in the engine, called the camshaft, within half the speed that the crankshaft (if you find yourself baffled by such terms, widen your knowledge by reading up on automotive part related articles) is turning. Thus, the belt is not only responsible for turning the camshaft, it also ensures alignment security. There is, after all, nothing as dangerous as a component lost within the confusing mass of the engine, no matter how small since the possibility of it getting caught somewhere and causing irreparable damage to parts of other systems is a constant risk.
It is for this reason why boning up on quite a bit of information on timing belts will not be a complete and utter waste of your precious resources and finite time. Besides, it never hurts to learn anything new about the world everyday, even if it is as simple as . If truth be told, it may even prove to our advantage. With the uncertainty we live with regarding the future, who’s to say you won’t find yourself in a bind over a troublesome Volvo timing belt? Knowing what you’re up against will increase your chances of being able to manage through it with admirable aplomb.
