Volvo Declares Outsourcing of Auto Parts

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

The Swedish arm of Volvo Car Corporation has recently declared that the auto parts to be utilized by the company will be obtained from suppliers in India. This subcontract that covers Volvo parts amounting to at least 99 million dollars will be effective for this whole year.

According to a news report from pr-gb.com, Volvo Cars India Managing Director Paul De Voijs verified that the United States division of Volvo has been depending to some extent on auto parts companies such as Visteon, Minda HUF, Sundaram Clayton, Rico Auto, and Arvin Meritor. These auto parts firms acquire their items for consumption from Indian suppliers primarily because auto components from India are known for having superior quality and economical design.

Reports from the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India states that over 36 percent of the auto parts exports from India are targeting the auto market in North America and Europe. Since automotive companies from these continents are given the opportunity to obtain quality parts at very reasonable prices through it, the idea of Indian auto parts outsourcing became highly acceptable in these areas.

Volvo is not alone in this venture. As big auto manufacturers continue to enter subcontracts, it can be claimed that outsourcing of auto parts is a trend in the automotive industry these days. International companies such as DaimlerChrysler AG and General Motors Corporation also farm out the auto parts they employ in production from other countries.

Volvo Car Corporation is the manufacturer of premium Volvo automotive components such as Volvo oxygen sensor, radiator, and spark plugs. It operates under the multinational auto maker Ford Motor Company.
