“An entirely new racing car,” this is what Volvo Car Corporation said about the current vehicle it is developing. This vehicle will be based on the E85-fueled C30 and it will be the replacement of Volvo’s racing car last years, the Volvo S60.

Derek Crabb, the head of the powertrain and engine at Volvo Cars and also head of the racing department of the Swedish automaker said, “The C30 is a far more logical base as a racing car than the S60. The C30 clearly demonstrates Volvo’s environmental technology available on the market.”

The C30, equipped with quality and innovative Volvo auto parts, is scheduled for a three-year development period to prepare it to compete for the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

Volvo said that as of the moment, it is still too soon to provide the details about the construction of its new vehicle but the Swedish automaker has already released some technical details about the C30 racer. The C30 racer has the standard C30 body and it is being developed in partnership with Caran and being reinforced by a safety cage and the driver side has been provided with a side-impact protection. A front splitter and a rear Volvo spoiler wind that had been developed by Polestar have been added for improved aerodynamics.

Its powertian is an aluminum transversely mounted 2.0-liter inline-5 that’s capable of maximum power output of 288 horsepower upon reaching 8,750 rpm and its torque is around 170 pound-feet at 7,300 rpm. The engine is connected to a six-speed sequential gearbox. This gearbox sports straight-cut gears produced by Hewland. Its other Volvo parts include 17-inch BBS wheels and 17-inch Michelin slicks or grooved rain tires. Its exhaust system includes a stainless steel with catalytic emission controls. It also has a mechanical differential with a torque controlled ramper and friction discs. the braking system includes performance friction 4-piston calipers with radially and axially ventilated discs 332×32mm. Its rear brakes are Alcon 2-piston calipers with axially ventilated discs 290×10mm. its steering is a servo-assisted rack and pinion.

Swedish automaker Volvo Cars has introduced its revolutionary in-cinema campaign on the 13th of October. This unique campaign will entertain movie-goers with an interactive gaming experience shown on the silver screen.

This interactive gaming experience had the audience act as joysticks as they guided the new Volvo XC70 all-wheel-drive estate car that’s equipped with quality Volvo auto parts. They used their hands to guide the Volvo XC70 around the large-scale terrain as they collected passengers and some various items along the road. This campaign is the first of its kind in Europe. The Swedish automaker launched this in UK to support the debut of its all new estate cars and also its new brand message which is “Life Is Better Lived Together.”

It was on a Saturday, October 13, during the 8:30pm showing of Ratatouille that the movie-goers in 12 Cineworld cinemas experienced the interactive gaming experience of Volvo. They were able to participate and compete in Volvo’s thrilling nationwide competition. All of regional audiences cooperated with each other to attempt to score the most points on Volvo’s interactive gaming experience. They were able to see their performance via the live scoreboard found just on the side of the screen. The audience who won the said event were given free tickets to the cinema.

Swedish automaker Volvo will be soon be pinpointing the importance of child safety in the United Arab Emirates.

Volvo will be highlighting the importance of child safety to the public during the three day Mother, Baby, and Child Show 2007. This event had been organized by The Main Event (TME) and it will be help at the Dubai International Exhibition Center on the 16th to 18th of December 2007.

It had been recorded that about 12 percent of all the traffic accidents involve children being injured in Dubai. The reason for such is that there are a lot of parents allowing their children to take the front seat or do not strap them securely with safety belts when the children sit on the back.

Dubai’s Department of Health and Medical Services stated that the injuries most children suffer from car accidents are on their heads and abdomens. Doctors are saying that these injuries could have been avoided only if the children were strapped in child restraints to keep them safe.

The Mother, Baby and Child Show is a brand that focuses on safety and it has a human-centric approach on how to design cars to be safe.

Shannon Norris, the Events Director at TME said, “Volvo realizes that mothers are increasingly aware of the danger faced by their children when traveling in a car. They also realize that women play a major part in deciding which car brand to purchase for the family.”

Volvo will be introducing its latest Volvo auto parts that promise the latest in safety features during the show. The safety feature includes the new two-stage booster cushions. These seats could be adjusted to two heights so that children of different sizes could be accommodated. Another good thing about this feature is that even smaller children could enjoy a much comfortable and safer ride as they could sit higher in the car.

The all new Volvo V/XC70 also had its inflatable side curtains extended by up to 60mm. This, together with the height-adjustable booster cushions, give children a more secure protection. It also helps that the Volvo XC70 sports a stronger body side structure as protection to passengers, especially to children, is strengthened. In addition to that, Volvo also plans to offer a “Children and Cars” safety manual.

The Director of Volvo Car Safety Center, Ingrid Skogsmo, said, “People trust us, and that’s a big responsibility. We have to maintain this trust - not only with words, but with actions. That’s also why the safety in a Volvo always begins and ends in a real life situation.”

The Mother, Baby and Child Show will also be maintaining its culture through wholesome approach to childcare and family. It will highlight the issues that bother parents, children, and moms-to-be by giving them practical free advices and tips about breastfeeding, nutrition, and early education.

30,000 visitors came to the event last year and stayed over three days for the event. This year, the organizers of the show expect around 130 brands more, retailers and entertainment providers to come and participate and cover around 4,000 square meters.

Norris said, “Over the years, the secret of our success has been providing a common platform which appeals to all family members. Whilst mums are checking out the latest in childcare, the ‘little ones’ are kept busy with live stage acts featuring TV characters such as Barney, Care Bears, Fulla and Power Rangers.”
